Do you want to lose fat? Not feel sick all the time? Perform everyday tasks with ease? Maybe just look, feel, and perform better in general? If you answered yes to any of these questions then the Paleo Solution is a book you must read! This book, without question, is the most comprehensive, easy to read, and downright fun outline of the path to a healthy and normal you.
Written by former research biochemist Robb Wolf, the Paleo Solution is the conglomeration of ten years and thousands of clients that he has helped get back to health and vigor. I highly recommend you check out Robb’s website for more information on this very cool cat. His gym in Chico, CA is the epicenter for all things Paleo including the very popular Paleolithic Solution Podcast which I highly recommend as well.
As far as the book goes, I was extremely impressed. Literally not being able to put it down I breezed through it in only a couple days. The material is easy to follow, and written in a way that makes it fun and enjoyable as a reader. If you don’t know how funny Robb is now, by the end of the book you will have a pretty good idea. In many sections I found myself laughing out loud. The best part of this book is the layout. You begin with some background on Robb and a few clients to see what this kind of lifestyle (notice my deliberate use of lifestyle and not diet) can really do for folks. Then you start in on the science that lies behind all these mechanisms in the body that can lead to poor health and life threatening disease. After building a strong base the next step is implementation. This is where you really get your bang for the buck. Most people I speak with about this type of eating always have excuses about shopping, meal preparation, and not being able to eat anything. Robb masterfully takes away all the excuses by telling you how to shop, what meals to make, and the way to create your own. There is literally 30 days worth of meal plans with recipes! I mentioned the word lifestyle earlier, and I truly believe that’s what this book is all about. On top of the food Robb also delves into movement (exercise), as well as other factors for disease specifically stress management and sleep. The chapter on cortisol was particularly enlightening and I’m sure will give a number of people a wake up call.
I really could go on and on gushing about all the benefits you will reap from picking up this fantastic book, but you should really just pick up a copy and see for yourself. This book is for anyone at any age and level of activeness who truly wants to feel healthy, look better, and staying out of the doctor’s office. Robb Wolf has truly done a public service with his writing of the Paleo Solution, and I for one am quite thankful.
