The Education Racket

As the cost of college has gone up exponentially over the last 30 years it has become more apparent to me that education is indeed a racket. How many graduates actually end up in a career that is applicable to the degree which they hold? I would venture to say not that many. Government has become more and more involved in education which to myself and others is the reason for it's steady decline in results, and steady incline in cost. It was very evident in the state of the union address, when Obama asked for all americans to attend at least a year of higher education. He also stated that dropping out of high school is giving up on your country. this is absolutely absurd. What happened to a persons choice as to what is best for their situation in life? One of Obama's personal heroes, Abraham Lincoln, was a self educated man. He went on to become a successful lawyer and President of the United States! Don't misunderstand me. I do feel that higher education is very rewarding and helpful in gaining access to more specialized and high paying careers, but I think people should be free to choose for themselves. Thoughts?
